Section 6(1)(f) of the Private Forests Act 1994 requires Private Forests Tasmania “to maintain and update an inventory of private forests, prepare five-yearly reviews of private forests…” . To date, Private Forests Tasmania ahs produced on a five-yearly basis forward woodflow estimates that take into account owner intentions in respect of management and harvesting of their forests, and this important piece of work will continue to be undertaken in 2007/2008.The Australian and Tasmanian Governments prepare comprehensive reports on the “State of the Forests” on five-yearly bases, and there is regularly reporting on the state of the public forests. It is proposed that the “Sustainability Report on Private Forests 2007” will utilise the reporting criteria of the Government reports where applicable and appropriate to do so, and can also be considered as contributing to the larger reports while remaining capable of being considered as a stand alone document.
In Q3 and Q4 2007 Private Forests Tasmania will prepare the first “Sustainability Report on Private Forests 2007”, sections of which could be updated on an annualised basis and the report in total will be updated every five years.
